COP28UAE President Issues Urgent Climate Finance Plea
The world is facing a climate crisis. The effects of climate change are already being felt around the world, in the form of more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and food insecurity. The most vulnerable countries are bearing the brunt of these impacts.
Climate finance is essential to help these countries adapt to the effects of climate change and mitigate their emissions. It can provide funding for things like early warning systems, sea walls, and renewable energy projects. Climate finance can also help to build resilience and reduce poverty.
The $100 billion climate finance target was agreed upon by developed countries in 2009. However, to date, only about $80 billion has been delivered. This is a significant shortfall, and it is holding back progress on climate action.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, President-Designate of COP28UAE, is calling for the immediate delivery of the $100 billion climate finance target. He says that this is essential to restore trust in the COP process and to help the world’s most vulnerable countries adapt to the effects of climate change.
Dr. Al Jaber’s call for action is timely and important. The world is running out of time to address the climate crisis. We need to take action now to help the most vulnerable countries and to build a more sustainable future for all.At #PetersbergClimateDialogue, #COP28UAE President-Designate #DrSultanAlJaber urged for the urgent delivery and mobilization of the $100bn #climatefinance target to support the world 🌍’s most climate-vulnerable countries and restore trust in the COP process. pic.twitter.com/q0ho0Ro5nh

Call to action:
We urge developed countries to deliver on their promise of $100 billion in climate finance. This is essential to help the world’s most vulnerable countries adapt to the effects of climate change and mitigate their emissions. Climate finance can also help to build resilience and reduce poverty.
We also urge all countries to take ambitious action on climate change. We need to reduce our emissions and transition to a clean energy future. We can do this together, but we need to act now.
