GAAC Holding: Revitalizing Afghanistan’s Airports, Empowering the Aviation Sector
In a significant move to restore stability and prosperity to Afghanistan’s aviation sector, UAE-based GAAC Holding has signed the third and final contract with the Taliban administration. The agreement grants the company the rights to operate the three major airports in the country and make substantial investments in their infrastructure.
Afghanistan’s airports have faced numerous challenges in recent years, with severe damage caused during periods of conflict, leading to the suspension of international flights. GAAC Holding recognized the urgent need to restore functionality and safety to these vital transportation hubs and swiftly invested USD 641,000 in critical equipment, facility management, and technology.
The investment encompassed essential repairs to runway lights, installation of generators, provision of advanced security equipment such as x-ray machines, metal detectors, and explosive trace detectors. Additionally, GAAC Holding set up a temporary terminal building and ensured the availability of food and water for airport staff. The company also procured essential ground support equipment, including trolleys, tow tractors, loaders, and buses. Notably, GAAC Holding demonstrated its commitment to local empowerment by training and employing over 500 Afghan personnel to operate the airports.
With expertise in ground handling, premium services, aviation security, and air navigation services, GAAC Holding brings valuable experience and knowledge to the Afghan aviation sector. The company has been operating in Afghanistan since November 2020, initially providing ground handling and premium services at the international airports in Kabul, Kandahar, and Herat. The contract also included aviation security services at these airports, as well as Mazar-e-Sharif.
The partnership between GAAC Holding and the Taliban administration signals a renewed hope for Afghanistan’s aviation industry. The revitalization of airports not only enables the resumption of international flights but also drives economic growth, facilitates trade, and strengthens connectivity with the global community. By empowering local communities through employment opportunities and investing in critical infrastructure, GAAC Holding demonstrates its commitment to rebuilding Afghanistan’s aviation sector and contributing to the country’s long-term development.
GAAC Holding’s investment and commitment to modernizing Afghanistan’s airports are crucial steps towards restoring stability and prosperity to the nation. By fostering a thriving aviation sector, Afghanistan can reclaim its position as a hub for regional and international connectivity. With enhanced infrastructure and empowered local communities, the country is poised for a brighter future in the aviation industry.
