UAE a Leader in Region in Promoting Women’s Rights

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made significant progress in empowering and protecting women in recent years. The UAE has enacted a number of laws and policies that promote gender equality, and it has established a number of initiatives to support women’s empowerment.

One of the most important laws that the UAE has enacted is the Federal Law №3 of 2022 on the Prevention of Domestic Violence. This law criminalizes all forms of domestic violence, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse. The law also provides for a number of protective measures for victims of domestic violence, such as restraining orders and access to shelters.

The UAE has also enacted a number of laws that promote gender equality in the workplace. For example, the UAE Labor Law of 1980 was amended in 2020 to prohibit discrimination in employment on the basis of gender. The law also requires employers to provide equal pay for equal work.

In addition to enacting laws, the UAE has also established a number of initiatives to support women’s empowerment. For example, the UAE government established the Gender Balance Council in 2019. The council is responsible for promoting gender equality in all sectors of society. The council has also launched a number of initiatives to support women’s empowerment, such as the “100% Women” Policy and the “Empowering Women in the Workplace” program.

The UAE’s efforts to empower and protect women have been recognized by international organizations. In 2021, the UAE was ranked 124th out of 156 countries on the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index. This is a significant improvement from the UAE’s ranking of 138th in 2020.

The UAE’s progress in empowering and protecting women is a testament to the country’s commitment to gender equality. The UAE is a leader in the region in promoting women’s rights, and it is an example for other countries to follow.

Here are some of the specific initiatives that the UAE has taken to empower and protect women:
